Dads thoughts

Posted by deuceace in Beginings

The timing couldn’t have worked out better for me, to be there for Wyatt’s arrival.Had been getting daily progress reports and then some! I had felt really guilty about not adopting that first dog I picked up and held to my chest .When Leah sent me the text saying she found him I had to pull over and say a little pray of thanks. Anyway got to share in the new home experience, then had to leave again 🙁 Those first days went well but the 2nd night was huge Wyatt actually wanted up in the bed with us, eventually he crawled under the covers between us letting me pet and touch him all night long ,next more big steps first he came to me then he licked my hand we were amazed this from a dog that dosnt like men since then I’ve home for 2 short visits lots of barking but before the visit is over he’ll get his licks in.Wyatt is making huge strides daily “how are my boys?” is the 2nd question I ask. Eventually Wyatt will be joining me in the truck that’s the 18 wheel part ,He already likes to go for rides and has to sit up so he can make sure mom is going the right way so booster seat for the truck is in order then he’ll really be able to check on my driving. It amazes me how quickly Wyatt has found his place in our home ,his forever home .Anyway e’nuff from me gotta give this laptop back, thank you for all the kind words of encouragement Geoff

Meeting my new fur brothers

Posted by deuceace in Beginings

I am the BLURR!!  I get you Jake!

So as you can see, we get along just great! Jake is much, much bigger than me. Jake weighs 25 lbs and I weigh 12 pounds.

I loves Jasper my other and oldest brother. He doesn’t care for all my young energy though. He is 12 years old and grouchy sometimes.

There was no big issue on the introductions, we all went out into the back yard and sniffed each other for awhile.

I was on a long 15 foot leash and Jake’s old harness. I did not want to stay here with these darn peoples! I promptly chewed through Jake’s harness and was off! Only to discover that this backyard is a fortress! No way out. Dad tried to pick me up and I let him have a nip on the hand, I mean business, I’m leaving! So they finally corner me and gently pick me up and take me in the house. My first weekend – I get a bath and they pick a lot of ticks off me. (Geez all this touching, I hate it!)

For my first walk with my new family, dad carried me all the way to the park. After that, mom and dad thought (therefore they were wrong!) that for the daily walks, I would be carried through the desert trails in a backpack until we got to the park. Then they would put the 15 foot leash on me so I could romp around in the grass. The back pack idea lasted about a week. I walk on my own three paws now and keep up with my fur brothers just fine.

Maybe dad could chime in and say something about my first weekend? Hint-hint

A little more about me

Posted by deuceace in Beginings

Last night dad asked mom if she was keeping my blog updated…(you are so busted mama!)

So Jake was adopted and taken to his new home right away.

No road is ever straight…right dad?

I was not adopted and went through three foster homes in my first year of life.
I don’t like to remember what happened my first year, I lost my front left paw
after I was born. I went through some foster parents and returned back, however
I did so love my last foster mom a lot! She was so nice and lived out in the
desert with a lot of other dogs. I wouldn’t let anyone catch me but her and was free to
do pretty much whatever I wanted!

Meanwhile-dad and mom were wondering what
happened to me and discussed many times that they should have adopted me too.

A few months ago mama was reading a book about a Search and Rescue dog, looked up the S&R website and read some wonderful
stories about brave dogs and their awesome handlers. One thing leads to another
and she is looking at dogs up for adoption that didn’t make the S&R cut. Then there is link to a local rescue group that they adopted Jake from. “click” She scrolls down….and there is my picture! She is so excited; she sends dad a text message, “I think I found Jake’s brother!” Dad says “thank goodness! Go.Get.Him!” She calls the rescue group’s phone and leaves desperate messages. She sends e-mails to the rescue group. Two times she shows up at the rescue groups adoption events and starts
to get aggressive. “GRRRRR! We want this dog!” She becomes a big pest to everyone involved. They try to warn her, he has many issues, missing paw, HATES men, you can’t catch him, or pick him up. He is fearful and shy and will run away. Mom says “that’s OK – don’t forget, I have his brother, he had many of the same issues.” (‘cept Jake bonded with dad within hours.) So mom
drives out to meet me and my foster mom. I don’t know what is going on but nobody is going to touch me! I don’t even look at this lady who THINKS she is going to take me to her house! She sees how I get along on my three paws and that I am pretty darn cute. She and my foster mom talk for a long, long time. New mom says she wants me and I will fit into her family. I don’t think so! I
will show them! During the next week, I get a vet exam, shots; new mom fills out paperwork so she can bring me to the new home by the Labor Day weekend. She hears new dad is trying to get home for the long weekend too. (She hasn’t seen
him for two months) Then everything goes through as mom planned and the rescue group calls her and says Congratulations, Cubby is yours! They also tell her they are 99% sure I am Jake’s brother. I am the only Tripawd they have ever had in the rescue group. So Thursday night September 1st – mom goes out and buys me a crate and bed and other stuff. Friday after work, she picks me up. Dad got off work and is home with the Roo Brothers waiting for me. Mom pulls up in front of the house; I throw up in my crate. Dad comes out to help. I’m about to meet my fur brothers for the first time and I am so scared and nervous!

A little background on me

Posted by deuceace in Beginings

Wyatt here~I wanted to share a little background info as to how I adopted my forever family.

My mom was on one her favorite forums in September of 2010 and someone had posted a link to Christmas ornaments for dog lovers. She was looking around at ones that said, “I love my Australian Cattle Dog” As she was scrolling down she saw an ornament that said “I love my mini Australian Shepherd” She didn’t know they bred minis and toys of Aussies. Mom and dad had lost a standard size Australian Shepherd to a seizure two years ago, they were still sad. (RIP CJ4) She knew then she was ready for another dog and something smaller this time. She loves herding dogs so she wanted a mini Aussie. My new dad did some research and discovered the price for an Aussie from a breeder was out of their price range. They have always adopted dogs from shelters. They put getting a mini Aussie on the shelf for the time being, no hurry. On November 27th, 2010  they were going to the pet store to pick up some crickets for their son’s tarantula and saw puppies up for adoption with a rescue group. They asked what kind of puppies they were and were told mini Aussies! My dad picked me up first and talked to me. Mom noticed I was missing a paw and I didn’t look anyone in the eye. Dad put me down and they walked away to discuss adopting me. Mom said she was scared of raising a special needs dog, who looked for all the world like he needed a lot of work. She was worried dad would spend every penny he made making life comfortable for me. So they adopted my brother, McGarrett who is now Jake who has no physical issues. They put a lot work and love into Jake and when he turned one year old this past August they thought how it would be great to have a playmate for Jake as Jasper who is twelve years old is not as energetic as Jakie is. Mom was about 60% ready and all this time dad was wondering what had happened to me and if I was alright.  My story will continue
